1974 Montesa Cappra 250 VR
This Cappra VR is one of 1,600 produced in 1974 and it’s the successor to the model 63 Cappra 250 successfully ridden by Tim Hart, John DeSoto and factory rider Pete Lampu, in the late 60’s/ early 70’s. The VR designation is for Factory Montesa motocross rider Kalevi Vehkonen. In 1973 Vehkonen rode a similar Montesa prototype in the World Motocross Championships and in Belgium he took first overall ahead of an impressive field including Decoster, Mikkola and Hakan Anderson. Two weeks earlier, he won the first moto over a more impressive field including the above and Geobers, Robert, Pomeroy and Aberg. The Vehkonen Replica (VR) is the most popular Montesa of all time and certainly one of the most beautiful bikes of the period. This one has the original seat, tank and front number plate unrestored as they were just too nice to touch. The front number plate is very rare, as the original lettering was the first to go to make room for a competition number.
